A while back Stu and Brandon recorded an original Christmas song and released it on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-VxJh9aL0Q&hd=1. But we want everybody to own it, so we’re sending it out to our entire email list – signup to the right. We hope you’ll share it with all your friends!

2011 has been an amazing year thanks to you. And who KNOWS what’ll happen in 2012? With one year ending and a new beginning, here’s what we have on our minds:

Lots of Writing

You may be wondering what we’ve been up to as a band. In a word, writing. We have something like 40 songs to choose from for the album, and we plan to record a ton of that for different releases. It’s kept us busy, which has (sadly) meant fewer shows and less blogging & such, but this first full album on Atlantic should make your ears pretty happy. We can’t wait to get into the studio, then release the album and get on the road to see you.

Holiday Cheer

Finally, we’re taking 10% off everything on our online store until the end of the year! Just use the Coupon Code THEREALTHING before January 1 to get the new EP or our posters, CDs & shirts for any music lover in your life — including yourself. It’s another way for us to say thank you for being so good to us. Click here to browse the store.

But truthfully, we are working hard on getting the songs ready to record our first full length album on Atlantic Records, and are sparing no expense, so be (very) excited.

On another exciting note, our EP was released on iTunes a week or so ago, and we also have a store where you can buy the physical copy as well as other merchandise, so feel free to take a gander.

We love you all dearly, and hope to see you all soon

So I thought to myself, wouldn’t it be nice to change it up a bit, and recommend something different? I’ve spent time recently in the beautiful town of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Ever been? It’s quite diverse, and fitting since I’m currently in Jackson writing this post, listening to the sound of water running down the creek.

As I was looking at the most recent recommends posts, I noticed that most of them describe albums and bands.

So why recommend Jackson? Aside from the brief glimpse of my aforementioned repose? Jackson has some of the most beautiful mountains in the world – those being the Grand Tetons. You can spot them from almost any vantage point in town, and they make for some spectacular views. Add hiking, biking, canoeing, or whatever your venture of choice may be, with a few bears and moose along the way, and you may feel you’re in one of the most gorgeous places on earth. And I guess it doesn’t hurt that the town itself has tons of cool shops, restaurants, and real-life shoot-outs that happen every night on the town square. Having fun yet?

Above is a picture taken last week of the Tetons over Lake Jackson. Visit Now!!

Yesterday while I was driving I was listening to the White Album – the Beatles that is, and I couldn’t help but notice how many weird songs are on that album. Let’s see, there’s – Wild Honey Pie, The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill, Piggies, Why Don’t We Do It In the Road (really?), and of course how can one forget Revolution 9.

So, why is this one of my favorite albums? This is the question that I was asking myself yesterday. I truly believe that the second disk by itself is one of the greatest albums ever – the first disk is where there’s a little weirdness.

Anyway, most of the weird songs probably came from John, but somehow they work, and that’s the beauty of it. You have a gentle song like Blackbird followed by the weirdness of Piggies, followed by one of my favorite songs Rocky Raccoon – which in and of itself is such a different type of song than most of the songs on the album, but somehow it all works.

I give The Beatles props for not holding back on putting some of the songs that could have easily been considered “terrible songs” on the album and just doing it.

Simply said, this album is great, so if you haven’t taken a listen, take the time and do so.
